Samurai Fretless

Samurai Fretless is a custom guitar rebuild project that I'm currently working on and this blog is to chronicle the process.

The guitar is a vintage (1974~1978) C-11 Conn Classical guitar ("Made in Japan"). The wood is ...

top: spruce (probably sitka) [jpg chart]
back/sides: mahogany [jpg chart]
fingerboard: rosewood

what does this mean for an acoustic?
well, the mahogany gives the guitar a brighter tone, which is preferred for classical's, because you need clarity of notes when playing classical sheet music. you don't want mud. the spruce gives amplifying power to the resonation, so you don't have muffled sounds coming out of the guitar.

I have yet to name the guitar, but I think I will know her name when the project is complete.
So sign up and follow the progress! :)
